A guide of the best available techniques (BAT) of the brewing industry in Poland was published. It was written based on regulations and procedures of the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control – IPPC. Following the member states of the European Union the Ministry of Environment appointed Technical Working Groups at the end of 2002. They were formed of representatives of particular industries obliged to respect the UPPC requirements. The Technical Working Group of the Food Industry including the brewing industry was one of them. The objective of these groups’ work was among others to present in detail the problems of IPPC to industry organisations and to regional and local institutions responsible for environment protection. Driving towards ordering information related to the brewing sector UBIEP undertook an initiative consisting in preparing a special document, namely the already mentioned guide. It constitutes a compilation of referential materials of the brewing industry in the field of IPPC. Thanks to the cooperation between UBIEP and The Brewers of Europe, the works on the guide in Poland were constantly compared to similar actions conducted in the member states of the European Union. The guide was created under the lead of Adama Pawełas, Environment Manager with Carlsberg Polska SA, who is also president of the Technical Working Group of the Food Industry. The following persons participated in the works and backed certain parts of the guide: Radosław Borowski, Environment Protection manager and Work Hygiene and Safety Manager with the Group Żywiec SA as well as doctor Klaudyna Gruszecka, Environment Protection Manager with Kompania Piwowarska SA. The full document is available online on the Web page of the Ministry of Environment Protection.
